"Functional Neurological Disorder: Cognition as a Transdiagnostic Feature”
Dr. Van Patten is an Assistant Professor at Brown University and a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist at the Providence VA Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He completed his PhD in clinical psychology at Saint Louis University, followed by internship at Brown University and fellowships in neuropsychology at the University of California San Diego and Harvard Medical School. He is an active researcher, clinician, and educator with over 80 peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters, including more than 35 first-authored works. He serves as Associate Editor for the APA journal Neuropsychology and is on the editorial boards of several additional journals. His VA-funded research program focuses on functional neurological disorder, digital neuropsychology, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive rehabilitation. Dr. Van Patten is also a leader in education and training, serving as co-founder and co-host of the Navigating Neuropsychology podcast, a member of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology Board of Directors, and Neuropsychology Track Coordinator for the Brown internship program. He is a recipient of the 2026 American Neuropsychiatric Association Career Development Award.
