Meet Dr. Colin Harrington

ANPA PRESIDENT-ELECT

Dr. Harrington attended Middlebury College and Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a Transitional Internship at Naval Hospital Portsmouth and then served for 3 years as a General Medical Officer (GMO) in the US Navy. After his GMO service, he completed an additional year of Internal Medicine training at UNC Chapel Hill, then went on to Brown University where he completed a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry (BNNP).

He is board certified in General Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), and in Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry by the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties (UCNS). He is a Distinguished Fellow of the APA and a Fellow of both the American Neuropsychiatric Association (ANPA) and the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP). He currently serves as Director of the CL Psychiatry service and of Neuropsychiatry Education at Rhode Island Hospital (RIH), and as Director of the CNS-Psychiatry Clerkship and the CL Psychiatry Fellowship at the Alpert School of Medicine (AMS) of Brown University. He is a Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine, Clinician Educator, at AMS of Brown University. ANPA has been his professional home for greater than 20 years and has been a source of great learning, collaboration, personal and professional relationships, and growth throughout his career. He has been an active participant and presenter in ANPA annual meetings and active in ANPA administrative and leadership roles, including service as Chair of the Membership Committee, Council Member across two terms, and a member of the ANPA Advisory Committee. He has served for many years as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences (JNCN) (amongst other journals), the flagship journal for ANPA, and is an active member of the UCNS BNNP Examination Committee.

He is honored to be nominated to serve as President - elect of ANPA, where he will bring his energy and passion for the field of BNNP, his allegiance to ANPA, and remain committed to:

  • Advancing the understanding of neuropsychiatric disease and the treatment of patients (and families) living with neuropsychiatric illness
  • The continued development of Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry as a specialty
  • The growth and expansion of our organization and the diversity of its membership
  • The ongoing cooperation and collaboration with sister neuropsychiatry-based organizations and societies
  • Continued robust programming in education and training in BNNP, and support of BNNP fellowships
  • Continued support of the superb quality of our annual meetings, their academic and clinical content, and of our flagship journal, the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences
