31st Annual Meeting of the ANPA

March 18-21, 2020

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

March 09, 2020

Dear ANPA Members, Annual Meeting Attendees, and Annual Meeting Faculty:

As you know from our previous messages, your ANPA leadership has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak. In light of the myriad issues related to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety and wellbeing of our patients, ANPA members, meeting attendees, and colleagues, it is not possible for us to hold our 2020 meeting. Therefore, we are formally cancelling it.

As clinicians and scientists, our first and most significant duty is to our patients. To date, containment is our most critical line of defense against the spread of the virus. Travel and large group meetings pose high risk for unintentional spread. The ANPA does not want to unwittingly contribute to disruption of clinical care at multiple hospitals or place our patients or members at risk.

The ANPA leadership has been closely following the guidance from the CDC, WHO, and our academic affiliates. Most of our home institutions, as well as the VHA and other federal agencies, have issues similar guidance for the protection of their staff and patients. In addition, multiple universities, the VHA, and other federal agencies have instructed their faculty not to go to local or national meetings until further notice. As such, we have lost a critical mass of our faculty and staff for the 2020 Annual Meeting.

I want to personally thank all our registrants for your interest in attending our 2020 meeting, our faculty for their willingness and efforts to help us learn, all our committees and the JNCN for creating a stellar program, and my other ANPA leaders and mentors. This decision to cancel the meeting is certainly sad and unprecedented and was taken only after much research, discussion, guidance, and thoughtfulness. We firmly believe it is the right decision in order to support the safety of our members, patients, families, and communities.

In looking forward, we will be in-touch throughout the year to update our members on ANPA and have the 2021 meeting slated for Boston, MA March 17-20, 2021. I hope to see everyone there for an exciting and rewarding program.
